Sep Skater of the Month

Name: David Beall

Nickname: Scryb

Age: 26

Marital Status: Single

Have been skating for how long:I have been skating off and on my whole life. I have been speed skating for a total of about 4-5 years.

Equipment Brand and Type:

  • Boots:Bont Z
  • Frame: Neutrino Turbo
  • Wheels(indoor/outdoor): Matter's green Lethal-X 110mm / MPC Black Magic 110mm.

Life Philosophies: There is always more to be learned, especially in failure. Losing means you have more to learn, which is a great thing! Always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Keeping these things in mind- do what makes you happy.

Favorite Time of Day to Skate: In the morning if it's outside, night time if it's indoors.

Favorite Skating Event: Indoor 500m.

Awards/Competitive Wins: Skating-wise, I have two medals from events back in 2002, and a first-place plaque from Nira nationals for the 2man relay in 2003. Non-skating related, I am a very accomplished Magic: the Gathering player (I am not playing currently). Hah.

Most Memorable Incident: Definitely all of the friends I have made along the way.

What do you get from Skating: Skating gives me time to work off any stress that I'm under, gives me time to listen to music while I get a great workout, and meet great people.

Would like to do this Year in Skating: This year, I would love to get my endurance up to the point I can actually finish an outdoor event, lol.

Coolest Accomplishment: I once won the 6-foot stuffed animal prize in the ring-toss. Yes, really.

Other Sports/Hobbies you Enjoy: I played just about every mainstream sport as a kid, but these days I love to play pool, poker, and long to skateboard again. Other hobbies include watching anime and educational shows (plus bad horror movies) and playing PC games such as League of Legends and War Frame.

Favorite skating gadget/tool: WINDEX WIPES. (I'm an indoor skater at heart)

What do you enjoy about being a member of HCIC:I love how accepting everyone has been. There are competitive skaters, new skaters, and everything in between. Everyone is laid back and everyone is welcomed at the events, of which there are many and they are great!

Mentors: Sonny Felter, my friends, my preffessors, and myself (remember that always learning philosophy).

Helpful advice to other skaters/ Beginners: Push through the pain, keep that butt down (!!) , and, most importantly, have fun and don't stress! You'll get better as long as you have skates on your feet!

Favorite quote: I have two: "If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants who have come before me." - Isaac Newton And one that speaks more to my lifestyle... "Punk is the expression of uniqueness that comes from the experience of growing up in touch with our human ability to reason and ask questions." - Greg Graffin of Bad Religion
